Parkinson's care at home in Leeds

Living with Parkinson's means planning the day around medication. Doses taken late can mean stiffness, freezing or falls, so having someone on hand to make sure tablets are taken on time makes a real difference.

A live-in carer gets to know the pattern of good and difficult times of day and arranges things to suit.

Could parkinson's care help?

It's often a good fit when:

  • Medication timing is becoming hard to manage
  • Freezing, tremor or slowness make everyday tasks difficult
  • Falls or near-misses are happening
  • A partner is finding the physical side of caring too much

What your carer helps with

  • Medication prompts exactly on schedule
  • Help with dressing, washing and eating when movement is slow
  • Safe walking and turning, including cueing techniques for freezing
  • Exercises set by a physiotherapist
  • Meals that are easier to manage if swallowing becomes difficult

What a day can look like

  1. Early

First dose on time, then waiting for it to work before getting up.

  2. On time

Washing, dressing and outings planned for when movement is best.

  3. Midday

Lunch timed around medication, as the specialist team advises.

  4. Evening

A slower pace as the day's doses wear off, and help with bedtime.

Every day is planned around the person - this is only an example.

Parkinson's support in Leeds

If you've been diagnosed, you'll usually have a specialist team and a Parkinson's nurse through the Leeds hospitals or community services. Your carer follows their advice on medication timing, exercise and diet. Parkinson's UK also offers information and local support for people living with the condition and their families.

Adapting as things change

Parkinson's moves at its own pace. As it does, the plan is updated - and if later stages call for it, we can bring in a carer who has looked after people with advanced Parkinson's before.
