Live-in care in Leeds
Live-in care means a carer moves into your home and builds their days around yours. They help with the practical things that have become harder - washing, meals, medication, getting about - and they're there in the evening and overnight, so nobody is left alone at the end of the day.
For many Leeds families it's the alternative to a care home: the same house, the same neighbours, the same corner shop and the same GP, with one person who gets to know exactly how things are done.

Could live-in care help?
It's often a good fit when:
- Daily tasks are becoming difficult, but home is where you or your relative want to be
- Short visits from a domiciliary agency aren't enough, or the times keep changing
- Someone has had falls, or the family worries about the nights
- A couple wants to stay together without one partner caring for the other alone
- You'd like one familiar face rather than a rota of different visitors
What your carer helps with
- Washing, dressing and help in the bathroom
- Cooking meals the way you like them
- Prompting medication at the right times
- Laundry, tidying and keeping the house running
- Getting out - to the shops, the park, church or the club
- Company through the day and someone in the house at night
What a day can look like
Morning
Help to get up, washed and dressed at your own pace, then breakfast and morning tablets.
Late morning
A walk round the block or a lift to the market, a GP appointment, or the crossword with a cuppa.
Afternoon
Lunch, a rest, visitors, a phone call with family, light housework and laundry.
Evening
Tea, the television or a game of cards, evening medication and help getting ready for bed.
Overnight
The carer sleeps in their own room and is there if you need them.
Every day is planned around the person - this is only an example.
How it fits with services in Leeds
Your carer works alongside the people already involved: your GP practice, district nurses from Leeds Community Healthcare, and any hospital teams at the LGI, St James's or Chapel Allerton. If you have a social worker from Leeds City Council's adult social care team, we'll share the care plan with them too.
Plenty of our clients keep going to their Neighbourhood Network lunch club or community group - live-in care is often what makes that possible.
How we match a carer
Before anyone moves in, we visit to understand routines, health needs and the small things that matter - whether tea comes strong, whether the radio stays on Radio Leeds, whether there's a dog to walk. We then introduce carers whose experience and personality suit, and you have the final say.
Carers need their own bedroom and a break each day. We arrange cover for their time off, so the household always knows who is coming and when.
What it costs
Live-in care through Leeds Haven starts from £1,200 a week. Where you land above that reflects how much help is involved; we put the figure in writing after the assessment, before you commit to anything. For many people with significant needs it compares well with a residential or nursing home place, especially for couples.
