What affects the price

Level of need
Help with personal care, dementia or nights adds to what the carer does, and to the cost.
One person or two
Couples care costs more than care for one, but usually far less than two care home places.
Length of care
Short respite stays and long-term care are priced differently.
Specialist experience
Some situations need a carer with particular experience, such as advanced Parkinson's.

Help paying for care

Leeds City Council may contribute if you're eligible and have savings under £23,250. Your home isn't counted when care is provided at home.

Attendance Allowance ignores savings and income, and pays £76.70 or £114.60 a week in 2026/27, depending on need.

NHS Continuing Healthcare pays in full when needs are primarily health needs, after an NHS assessment.

No. Anything that affects the price - such as bank holiday rates or higher needs - is set out in writing before care begins. The household provides the carer's food or a food allowance and a bedroom.

Yes. Short-term and respite stays are quoted individually, usually with a short minimum period so the carer and your relative have time to settle.

If Leeds City Council assesses you as eligible for support, you may be able to receive a direct payment and put it towards live-in care. Our paying-for-care guide explains how the financial assessment works.
